Hotel Near the Royal Palace Museum
A doorstep inside the old town itself
Indigo House sits directly on Sisavangvong Road, the pedestrian spine of Luang Prabang's UNESCO World Heritage peninsula. Every landmark that makes this town worth visiting — the golden roofs of the Royal Palace, the night market stalls, the temples along the river, Mount Phousi's sunset stairway — sits within an easy, flat walk of our front door. For travelers weighing hotel options, that means fewer tuk-tuk rides, less time spent navigating an unfamiliar town, and more time actually in it. This page covers exactly where we are, how each landmark relates to us, and the best way to reach us from the airport or the road.
Opposite the Night Market
Each evening as the sun sets, the stretch of Sisavangvong Road right outside Indigo House transforms into the Luang Prabang Night Market — rows of canvas awnings selling handwoven Hmong textiles, silver jewelry, saa paper lanterns, and hill-tribe embroidery, stretching for several blocks through the old town. As a hotel opposite the Hmong market, we're used to guests stepping out after dinner, browsing for an hour, and being back in their room within minutes. There's no need to arrange transport or plan around closing times; the market forms and dissolves on the same street you're already staying on. Ask our front desk for a few reliable stalls if you're hunting for a specific weave or a fair starting price — after years on this street, we know most of the vendors by name.
Steps from the Royal Palace
As a hotel near the Royal Palace Museum in Luang Prabang, Indigo House is roughly 300 metres — about a four to five minute walk — from Haw Kham, the former royal residence that now houses the town's most visited museum. The walk there takes you past saffron-walled temple grounds and under the tamarind trees that line Sisavangvong Road, so it rarely feels like a chore even in the midday heat. Once you've toured the palace, the same short walk continues on to Mount Phousi, where a few hundred steps climb to a golden stupa and one of the best sunset views over the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers in Southeast Asia. The Morning Market, tucked into the lanes just beyond, is an easy add-on for guests up early enough to catch it before the produce stalls pack away.
Getting Here from the Airport
Luang Prabang International Airport is roughly 4km from Indigo House — typically a 10 to 15 minute tuk-tuk or taxi ride, traffic and time of day depending. Metered taxis and tuk-tuk drivers wait just outside arrivals and will recognize Indigo House or Sisavangvong Road without difficulty, but if you'd rather not negotiate a fare after a long flight, contact us ahead of arrival by phone, WhatsApp, or email and we can help arrange a pickup so a driver is waiting with your name when you land.
